Animal Referral Centre (ARC) is a private independently owned and operated animal referral practice established in 2016. We have two modern and amazing Auckland sites – Freemans Bay, Auckland city and Albany, North Shore.
We operate a 24 hour / 7-day week operation for emergency medicine. We also have specialists in small animal surgery, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, cardiology, neurology, oncology, and critical care. Hydrotherapy and dermatology are available at ARC North.
We have all the equipment you would expect in a modern referral veterinary hospital including a full in-house laboratory suite with Radiometer, multiparameter patient monitors, digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, underwater treadmill, mechanical ventilation, on-site CT and MRI, along with dedicated cat and dog receptions, consulting rooms and wards.

Job Description We are looking for a clever and qualified Veterinary Nurse with an interest in Internal Medicine.

What do you need to be successful in the role?
Be confident with communicating with owners
Taking detailed histories and bloods for the vet in nurse consults
Assisting in ultrasounds, procedures such as endoscopies, swallow studies, balloon dilations, CT scans, etc.
Be confident with monitoring sedation and general anaesthesia
Be confident with jugular bloods and IV catheter placement
Have an interest in complex disease processes and in-depth treatment plans
Administering medications and running in-house lab samples
Working closely with the Internal Medicine Specialists and other departments
Utilising Ezyvet and Smartflow programmes
Have a solid base in general nursing duties and in patient care
Hours of work
75 - 80 hours per fortnight
10 to 12 hour shifts
One shift every second weekend in the ER will be part of your roster within 12 months
Desired Skills and Experience Skills and experience
The successful candidate will:
Have at least 3 years' experience working as a veterinary nurse
Hold a Diploma in Veterinary Nursing or Bachelor of Veterinary Technology degree (or overseas equivalent)
Deliver an exceptionally high standard of patient care
Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
Be extremely reliable & willing to work shifts, including weekends & public holidays if required
Be a positive, supportive and encouraging team player
