Salary range: $93,923 to $117,404 depending on skills and experience
(pro-rata for part time hours) The purpose of this role within Verification Services (VS) is to provide a range of food safety verification and certification services to support market access strategies and setting standards.To support the meat industry and New Zealand's reputation in the world red meat market for the product produced and to ensure food safety and export standards are being followed by the plant.
Reporting to the VTS1 at Moerewa, the role sits within the Bay of Plenty Establishment team of the Verification Services directorate. The position is a permanent part-time role, working Monday to Friday with occasional weekend hours. Shift patterns will be 2 days x 10 hours which will include day and nights shifts, depending on roster requirements.
The role is varied, and you will be doing the following
Carry out verification of Risk Management Programs at meat processing establishmentsCommunicate well with internal and external stakeholdersComplete ante mortem inspections and provide oversight of post-mortem inspectionMaintain contact within the farming communities by being involved in on farm verificationProvide certification for animal product exportsPrior knowledge or experience in this field would be advantageous, but not essential as you will be trained in all aspects of the position upon appointment.
The successful candidate will:
Be a New Zealand registered Veterinarian (Or be able to obtain registration with VCNZ)Hold a full New Zealand driver's licenceHave verbal and written skills, and analytical reasoning skillsDemonstrate integrity and trust, ethics and values, resilience, adaptability, and opennessHave experience persuading and influencing, teamwork, planning and organisingHave computer literacy – can operate standard and customised software to an acceptable standard e.g. word-processing, excel, internet, emailReporting to a Supervising Veterinarian (VTS1) on site, you will work alongside one other VTS2 as well as working closely with personnel at the plant. This position sits with the Establishment Team for Bay of Plenty and may sometimes be required to work at other local meat establishments in the geographic area.
Moerewa is a semi-rural township based in the scenic Northland , with a short 20-minute drive to Kerikeri and 25-minute drive to Paihia. The site currently processes beef and bobbies on two shifts, 5 days per week plus some weekend overtime. You will be rostered onto shifts to be agreed locally with VTS colleagues. Any overtime is compensated and early starts, or late finishes are recognised with penal time payments, as well as shift leave accumulation.
Our role includes seizing export opportunities for our food and fibre sector, improving sector productivity, ensuring the food we produce is safe, increasing sustainable resource use, and protecting New Zealand from biological risk.
