Job description:Practicing/Senior Practicing Veterinarian in Dairy CattleHealth and ProductionPosition Purpose The purpose of this position is toProvide primary accession and whole farm health and productionservices for clients of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and onreferral to other veterinarians.Teach dairy cattle health (individual animal), whole farm healthand production, pastoral nutrition and preventative medicine toundergraduate students.Develop and run online learning material and resources tosupport student learning in clinical rosters within Farm ServicesClinicProvide mentorship to Farm Services staff in formal, clinical andonline teaching delivery within the School of Veterinary Science.Assist with the development of Competency Based learning andassessment outcomes for students within the Farm ServicesClinic.Department: School of VeterinaryLocation: ManawatuReports to: The Head of School through the Director of the Veterinary TeachingHospital and Farm Services Chief'Job Title: Practicing/Senior Practicing Veterinarian/Professional Clinician in DairyCattle Health and ProductionInternalKey relationships: School of Veterinary ScienceMassey Dairy UnitsMassey Large Animal Teaching UnitExternalClientsReferral VeterinariansIndustry professionalsContext:1Massey core capabilities2AccountabilitiesClinical services • Provide clinical services in dairy herd and individual productionanimal health as a veterinarian in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital.Equitable participation in the after-hours "on-call" roster. Must bewithin 20 minutes travel time of the Farm Service Clinic when on call.Teaching • Contribute to programmes of instruction in individual animal andwhole farm health and production services for students in degreeprogrammes, including the preparation and presentation of lectures,laboratory sessions, seminars, tutorials and clinical (on-farm)instruction in dairy cattle health. Develop and mark assessments.Develop content, presentation and scope of subjects to be taught inwhole farm health and production services and individual animalmedicine and husbandry; including undertaking such lead academicroles as course coordination.Contribute to continuing education and professional development forveterinarians.Administrative duties • Contribute to meeting the administrative needs of the University,internally and externally, by participating in School, College andUniversity functions as carried out by Boards, Committees, workingparties, groups and offices as may be required or approved fromtime to time by the Head of School.Promote University academic and professional interests by servingon government community, professional, educational or otherorganisations in external capacities which utilise and promulgatespecialist academic and technical knowledge, skills and otherexpertise, as approved from time to time by the Head of School.Health and Safety • Minimise threats to health and safety of self, staff and students andproactively engage in implementing Massey University's health andsafety policy.Animal Ethics • Ensure that all teaching, research and other activities undertaken,which involve the use of animals of their tissues, are conductedaccording to the law and conform with the requirements of theMassey University Code of Ethical Conduct for the use of LiveAnimals for Teaching and Research.University and • Meet the highest veterinary standards and professional developmentProfessional requirements as determined by the Veterinary Council of NZ's Codeexpectations of Professional Conduct, and undertaking professional developmentin pedagogical knowledge, understanding and expertise.Adhere to the rules and regulations of the University and comply withthe University's obligations to equal opportunities and the Treaty ofWaitangi.3Other • Contribute where appropriate to academic functions of the School byengaging in research in dairy whole herd health, individual animalmedicine and/or husbandry/ management:Other reasonable duties as specified from time to time by the Head ofSchool.Qualifications and ExperienceQualifications: A veterinary degree registrable in New Zealand is essential.A higher degree, post-graduate clinical qualification, or clinicalspecialisation is desirable.Experience: Experience in:the provision of clinical services, whole farm health andproduction programmes to production animal clients is essential.New Zealand pastoral production systems is desirable.teaching and research or scholarship is desirableFull drivers' licence is essential.
