In this pivotal role, you will have the opportunity to shape the future of our city, elevating the quality of public spaces and ensuring excellence in urban design standards.As Urban Design Lead, you will be leading master and spatial planning efforts, advocating for best practice urban design, and providing strategic direction to improve the way Napier's spaces are experienced.As our Urban Design Lead, some of your key responsibilities will include:Collaborate with developers, Iwi, and other stakeholders to advocate for high-quality urban design and housing that fosters resilient, inclusive communities.Lead and manage spatial planning, concept design, and urban design for Council-led projects, ensuring alignment with city growth and revitalisation goals.Provide urban design expertise across Council Directorates including transportation initiatives, reserves and open spaces, with the focus on sustainability and best practice urban design principles.Promote high standards in landscape, streetscape, and public space design, enhancing the city's overall amenity and functional quality.Conduct feasibility studies, strategic planning, and analysis of opportunities and constraints, contributing to master planning and project reporting.Offer urban design advice and review resource consent applications for large-scale residential and mixed-use developments.Support other Council teams with urban design and landscape architectural expertise as needed, fostering cross-departmental collaboration.About You:Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture or Urban Design (or equivalent qualification)At least 12 years of professional experience in Landscape Architecture or Urban DesignExperience in management of urban renewal projectsSkilled in urban design, strategic and master planningExperience working in multi-disciplinary teams, collaborating effectively with others, and building cross-organisational partnershipsAbility to manage project budgets and financial reportingStrong knowledge of spatial planning and urban designPrevious experience engaging with Mana Whenua and working with Treaty PartnersPlease note this is a fixed term (12 months) full-time position (Monday - Friday).Join us in building a better Napier!
