The Tamaki Makaurau Design Ope (TMDO) provides design leadership, high-quality advice and considerable expertise in the technical fields of urban, Maori and Universal design, landscape architecture and planning. We follow intelligent, collaborative and innovative practices which strive to ensure that the best possible design outcomes are achieved, every time. Our collective mahi inputs into regional and national strategy, influencing projects at site, precinct, centre and regional scales, always promoting informed and place-based design and practice to achieve great urban, environmental and Community outcomes. We recognise our place in the world, Tamaki Makaurau, and are always looking to the big challenges that we collectively face, now and into the future ahead of us. As an Urban Design intern, there are two teams that you would have the chance to work with: Strategy and Projects team The Strategy and Projects team provides subject matter expertise and strategic direction setting in a range of areas including urban design, architecture and 3D modelling, landscape planning and design, and universal design.  This team are also the custodians of the Auckland Design Manual and the City Centre Masterplan. Design Review This team provides expert urban design advice on resource consents for key development projects (both those undertaken by the council group and private developers), to achieve high-quality design outcomes. They support the Auckland Urban Design Panel, the Council Projects Design Review Panel, and dedicated panels established to provide design reviews of private sector and Council projects by a broader network of highly experienced design professionals and specialists. Designed for students in their penultimate year of a bachelor's degree, or in a continued masters programme, this paid three-month summer internship, running from 18th November 2024 to 14 February 2025, offers full-time work that aligns with your field of study. You'll engage in meaningful work, contributing to the development of Auckland as a world-class city, while receiving career development opportunities. As an intern, you'll be immersed in a supportive environment, with mentorship and networking opportunities that pave the way for a potential future within the council. You'll be part of Auckland Council's internship whanau and will be supported every step of the way by a team who want you to succeed including a buddy, liaison, Careers Team, and the wider intern cohort. Upon completion, interns may receive priority consideration for the Graduate Programme, setting the stage for a robust career start. He korero mou: About you As an Urban Design Intern, you will bring a positive attitude, a passion for the work the team does, and be self-motivated. You will have excellent written and verbal communication and be able to work in a collaborative team environment.
