We foster a continuous improvement culture and know we can do even more to improve our processing operations.Having recently secured the future of the smelter with a new 20 year energy agreement we are looking for a Ultra High Purity (UHP) Specialist to interface between the three key operating areas on site Carbon, Reduction and Casting & Logistics as well as senior leadership and global teams including procurement, sales and marketing.We are an open, connected international team of technical specialists using some of the most exciting data and tools.We have technical development programmes that are industry-leading and recognise the unique nature of your role. These provide opportunities to grow your career through a dedicated technical path while being rewarded for your unique skills.Reporting to the Principal Improvement Projects and working in a challenging and exciting environment within the NZ Aluminium Smelters Business Improvement team, you will be:Collaborating with stakeholders across site and globallyResponsible for the delivery of UHP and HP metal at planned production output ratesEnsuring consistency of UHP productionProviding UHP production forecasting capability ensuring Rio Tinto Sales and Marketing and customer confidenceUnderstanding and communicating raw material influencesDetermining and managing strategic inventories of UHP metalComprehension of Sales premiums and current product costingClose collaboration with Sales and Marketing to understand market trends and emerging marketsSupporting and executing strategic projects related to UHP production and capture across the whole siteBuilding productive relationships with key stakeholders e.g. raw material procurement, department technical specialists, and Shipping Services.What You'll BringA commitment to the safety of yourself and othersExcellent stakeholder engagement skillsA chemical engineering/chemistry qualification is preferred but those with an extensive background in Aluminium production and processing will be considered.Strong analytical skills and experience understanding trends and problem solvingUnderstanding of raw materials and compositions would be advantageousAbility to investigate and support process excursions through collaboration, data analytics and with tenacityStrong project management skills e.g Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt qualification would be helpfulWhat We OfferA work environment where safety is always the number one priorityA competitive base salary reflective of your skills and experience with annual incentive programComprehensive medical assistance schemeAttractive share ownership planLeave for all of life's reasons (vacation/annual, paid parental, sick leave) including long service leaveOptions for a 9-day working fortnight (a long weekend every 2 weeks).Flexible or part-time working hours will also be considered.Access to transport assistance between Invercargill and Tiwai.Competitive superannuation programmeCareer development & education assistance to further your technical or leadership ambitionsAbout Rio TintoRio Tinto is a leading global mining and materials company.
