Trustees For Climate Club Aotearoa Charitable Trust Board

Details of the offer

The Role
Climate Club Aotearoa is a newly-registered Charitable Trust, and we are seeking to add three volunteer Trustees to our board (meeting costs covered) to help guide our rapid development as a climate education and action organisation. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the direction of a dynamic actor in the climate communication arena in Aotearoa New Zealand.
We are looking to recruit 2-3 trustees to join our voluntary Board. We are specifically looking for further experience in Governance, Accounting, Grant & Fundraising experience, Legal practice, and scaling-up a non-profit organisation.
Board meetings occur monthly in the Auckland CBD and/or online, with the option to input into sub-committees in between. Board meetings usually last around 2 hours.
Our Purpose
Recent research shows that New Zealanders are still struggling to identify how to take action in the climate crisis. We need to reach the people who are already worried about climate change but are not sure how to help, and help them get started. Our solution: a focus on low-barrier, high-impact climate action that creates hope and builds momentum for systemic change. We focus on civic engagement, business action, and raising awareness of the multitude of climate actions available to people.
We have one general manager, 5 part-time contractors, and around 10 volunteers. Together we work to raise awareness for systemic climate action and encourage people to get started on their climate journeys, through action-focused weekly newsletters, social media content, and activation workshops. We are proud to work with over 7 councils across Aotearoa and many organisations to run climate workshops nationwide with a network of facilitators, which in part helps to fund the operation of our charity.
Ideal applicants
We are looking for 2-3 Trustees to complement our team. In that team, we are looking for the following mix of skills, but please apply regardless of whether you feel you fit any or all of these skill sets:

Not For Profit and Community-facing governance
Thought leadership into the future of climate action and education, including an appreciation of the challenges ahead
Competency in seeking grants and sponsorships and assisting in funding opportunity discovery
Multicultural acumen
Financial strength with experience in the community-facing or Not-For-Profit environment, with a treasurer position also available
Governance strengths with experience in chairing committees and Boards
Networks and relationships that can be leveraged for the Trust's future benefit
Competency to function within a group including an ability to both constructively challenge (each other and management) and work as an effective team.

We are seeking a mixture of skills and experience to complement our existing board. If you are passionate about enabling more climate action, get in touch!
