Trainee Racing Steward or Racing Steward - Canterbury RACING INTEGRITY BOARDTrainee Racing Steward or Racing StewardBe part of a team that puts animal welfare at the heart of what we do, while ensuring the integrity of racing is maintained at the highest level.You'll be playing an important role helping protect the integrity of New Zealand's racing industry by providing direction, advice and support to the thoroughbred, harness, and greyhound racing codes, along with racing participants.We're looking for an enthusiastic self-starter to fill either a Trainee Racing Steward or a Racing Steward role at the Racing Integrity Board. These opportunities don't come up often within our committed team.You'll be out and about across the country attending race meetings and visiting stables and kennels along with some time working from home.This position plays a key role in animal welfare, both on a race day and supporting our animal welfare team.What you'll be doingStewarding is a team effort whether it's on race day or visiting stables and kennels. A trainee will be provided with support and training, both on-the-job and instructor-led.The things you do as a Steward include:• Understanding and applying the Rules of Racing• Identifying breaches of the Rules of Racing• Inspecting venues and racetracks• Writing race day reports• Building relationships with participants and club officials, and• Conducting stable and kennel audits to check compliance with animal welfare and other industry standards.About this roleThis is a permanent full-time role.It's not a 'nine-to-five' job. You'll work an 80-hour fortnight, including some evenings and weekends.At times you will travel to some of the more remote parts of New Zealand.About youAs a trainee, you don't need experience in the racing industry , although you will need to be comfortable working with animals.A Racing Steward would need to be experienced in stewarding within the racing industry , with a proven track record of leading with integrity.The RIB looks for people who:Have high levels of integrity, honesty, and discretionGood at communicating and building relationshipsProduce clear and concise written workWork well under pressure and can think on their feetHave strong problem solving and decision-making skillEnjoy working in a team environment, andHave a working knowledge of computer technologies.If you like variety, a fast paced and constantly changing environment, in a region steeped in cultural history and dramatic landscapes perfect for adventure, then we want to hear from you.#J-18808-Ljbffr
