Awanui Labs – Dunedin (previously Southern Community Laboratories) is dedicated to providing high-quality diagnostic pathology services to the community, healthcare professionals, and their patients.
We are part of Awanui Group (formerly Asia Pacific Healthcare Group), a healthcare company focused on delivering exceptional care and service.
Our Patient Services Department specializes in the collection and handling of blood samples and other specimens (e.g., faeces, urine, tissue).
These are processed and tested in our state-of-the-art medical laboratories to support patient care and diagnostics.
About the role | Mo te turanga
We are looking for both Trainee and Qualified Phlebotomists to join our Dunedin team in casual roles.
You will be working on an as-needed basis, supporting a vital service that connects healthcare professionals with patients.
Key responsibilities include: Collecting blood samples and handling contained specimens (e.g., blood, faeces, urine, tissue).Preparing specimens for transportation to the laboratory.Providing professional and compassionate customer service as a vital link between healthcare professionals, patients, and the laboratory.What we're looking for | O pukenga: Qualified Phlebotomists: Previous phlebotomy experience.Registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand.Trainee: No prior phlebotomy experience is required, although experience or knowledge in a related healthcare or customer service role is beneficial.For both roles, you will need:
A positive and friendly approach, demonstrating cultural and social sensitivity.Compassion for patients of all ages and circumstances, with a commitment to high-quality care.Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow processes accurately, even under pressure.Good computer skills.Reliable transport and a full driver's license.Eligibility to work in New Zealand.What we offer | Nga ahuatanga kei a matou
