Trainee Cardiac Sonographer

Develop your career as a Trainee Cardiac Sonographer. This is a fixed-term, 40 hours a week (1.0 FTE) opportunity until December 2026. Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora will pay all training costs. Mo te tunga - About the Role As a Trainee Cardiac Sonographer, you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in a tertiary hospital. In this trainee position, you will develop the knowledge and skills to perform echocardiograms, make measurements, and write the provisional report. We will support you over two years to complete an Auckland based qualification in echocardiography. Ko wai koe - About You In this role, you will be responsible for: Attending the Auckland based education programme. Learning to perform and report transthoracic echocardiograms and exercise echocardiograms. In your second year of training, you will be expected to be scanning independently and contributing to the afterhours call roster. Te Whatu Ora will pay all training costs and support you to undertake the PGD through the University of Auckland. This course is distance-based learning. The expectation for this role is 32 hours a week of hands-on learning and scanning and 8 hours of study per week. Minimum Requirements Must have a BSc in Physiology or equivalent. Experience working in a clinical role in cardiology preferred. Understand own capabilities and limitations. Ability to self-regulate and motivated to complete study requirements. Ability to flourish in a busy working environment. Ability to communicate effectively with patients and whanau. Demonstrate a high level of attention to detail.
