StraitNZ is a unique, nationwide end-to-end transport service, connecting New Zealand across both road and sea. You will also need to satisfy a pre-employment drug and alcohol test, a seafarer medical exam, and a MOJ check.What is the role?A great role in the team responsible for carrying out routine maintenance as per the planned maintenance system, repairs to various machinery, and support to the second engineer/Chief Engineer.You will join a great team of hard-working people where you will be set up for success and career growth.This is a permanent salaried position, rostered 14 days on, 14 days off, living on board. The home port is based in Wellington, where you will need to arrange getting to and from.You will be:• Maintaining the engineering watch as the Third Engineer Officer on duty under the supervision of the senior engineer in charge of the watch.• Undertaking safe supervision and operation of the machinery, including but not limited to propulsion, power generation, steering, and all associated ancillary machinery on board the vessel.• Reporting defects and issues with machinery that would affect the safe operation of the vessel to the senior Engineer of the watch and providing solutions.• Conducting maintenance and repairs and maintaining spares inventory.What are we looking for?• A valid Certificate of Competency as MEC 3 Marine Engineer. An engineering qualification of Marine Engineer Class 2 Motor would be advantageous but is not essential for the right person.• The Certificate of Competency must be issued by Maritime NZ or must be recognized by Maritime NZ.• Sea-going experience.• Experience aboard passenger/ro-ro vessels will be an advantage although not essential.• Knowledge of relevant machinery systems including controllable pitch propellers, automation and electrics, various hydraulic systems, and stabilizer equipment is desirable.What we offer:• We offer a very competitive salary and matched Kiwisaver up to 8%.• We can offer you a free Southern Cross Healthcare plan, an annual fitness and wellbeing allowance along with use of ferries during off-peak times.If this role sounds like it's perfect for you and you are looking to join a dynamic and growing organisation, then we want to hear from you.
