About the Role You will be working in our Histology/Cytology department to ensure a high standard of work in all aspects of Anatomical Pathology. You will be expected to take a lead in our core histology area promoting systems and processes that ensure the highest level of quality in Anatomical Pathology. You will oversee workflow and provide support and direction for staff in the main laboratory area of the Histology Laboratory. This is a great opportunity for a skilled Scientist looking to progress their career in a tertiary hospital laboratory setting.
About the Service Our team of pathologists, scientists and technicians are located within Waikato Hospital and is supported by a modern, well equipped histology and cytology laboratory. We have access to a wide range of diagnostic stains and techniques. The Waikato Hospital Anatomical Pathology Laboratory processes over 18,000 surgical cases per year and over 2000 cytology cases per year.
About you Skills and experience you will need to be considered for the role:
Significant experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist in Anatomical Pathology. Experience in macroscopic grossing for large complex specimens will be an advantage.Ability to work closely with other laboratory staff, pathologists and clinicians.Experience of laboratory audit.Experience teaching/training Medical Laboratory Scientists and Technicians.Awareness of national initiatives in Anatomical Pathology.Knowledge of ISO15189 and its application.Developing training programmes and identification of staff training needs.A team focus with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.Able to work independently and prioritise workload effectively.The successful candidate must be eligible for registration with the Medical Sciences Council and hold a current practicing certificate before commencement in the role.Working for Health New Zealand Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is 'the weaving of wellness'.
