Position Overview
An amazing opportunity to join our growing Rotorua campus to teach our Foundations Programme.
As a Digital Tutor within Native Tech, you will help deliver the Tauwhiriwhiri programme , enabling participants to gain credits while developing vital digital skills. Reporting to the Lead Teacher, you'll design and lead interactive sessions, foster an inclusive and positive learning environment, and mentor students to support their digital and personal growth. Experience with coding or game design will be considered a valuable asset for this position. Your contributions are essential to Native Tech's vision of inspiring rangatahi in the digital realm.
About the role:
Facilitate dynamic digital tech sessions that introduce foundational skills to rangatahi.
Develop course content aligned with educational standards to support student progress.
Collaborate with the Native Tech team, including Rangatahi Transitions Navigators, to ensure cohesive program delivery.
Offer mentorship and pastoral support to students, guiding them toward their personal and professional goals.
Build strong relationships with students, parents, community members, and external partners.
Participate in program development and assist with organising Native Tech events.
Occasionally serve as a chaperone on trips and fulfil site supervisor duties as needed.
Qualifications & Skills
You will be a skilled tech practitioner who is enthusiastic, positive, patient, and a motivated self-starter with a passion for sharing knowledge and exploring new opportunities. While formal teaching experience is beneficial, it is not essential. Your exceptional communication and time management skills, coupled with your ability to connect and build strong relationships, will be the foundation of your success at Native Tech. Ideally, you will also have:
A Masters or graduate degree level qualification in coding, robotics, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity or a related field is essential.
Expertise in game dev and/or interactive media, including all areas needed to teach fundamentals and support student projects.
Knowledge of assessment, moderation and self-assessment practice.
Experience working with Maori and Pacific communities and understanding of their unique educational and cultural needs.
A high service ethos towards students to support their learning.
Experience using LMS.
A passion for digital technology and youth education.
Experience in teaching or tutoring, ideally in digital or creative tech.
Experience in coding or game design is a strong advantage.
Strong communication and organisational abilities.
An ability to connect with students through a variety of delivery methods and provide pastoral care and support.
Ability to work collaboratively within a dynamic and supportive team environment.
Familiarity with neurodiverse and LGBTQI+ communities is a plus.
Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi in a professional or educational setting.
A portfolio of your work will be required.
Full drivers licence required.
