Technical Lead (Payments Innovation) Why we need you. This role will be working in the PI team primarily on the Worldline Online Eftpos product. Online Eftpos is Worldline New Zealand's bespoke OPEN banking product providing customers with a secure alternative to online credit card payments. Online Eftpos is a key strategic pillar for Worldline New Zealand with consistent annual growth of more than 150%.
What you are going to be doing. To support our evolving growth strategy for the future of Worldline NZ we need a Technical Lead to support our engineering teams in delivery of key business priorities. This role will be assigned to the PI engineering team and will support the team in day-to-day delivery while providing technical guidance.This role involves close collaboration with architecture, security, and business stakeholders to understand end goals and requirements, ensuring that the engineering team has a clear understanding of work and is receiving support on day-to-day tasks.The Tech Lead also plays a critical role in supporting sizing activities for upcoming work and providing feedback on technical options.Additionally, the Tech Lead works with other tech leads to align on overarching deliverables and drive wider strategic engineering work and best practices.Team Management and Leadership Lead and manage a team of engineers, providing mentorship, guidance, and support.Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, performance reviews, and professional development plans for team members.Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture focused on continuous improvement and innovation.Work with other Tech Leads and Senior Technology Leadership to drive and support overarching people and culture initiatives.Ensure you are setting an example on office attendance and helping to drive a culture of collaboration through co-location.Collaboration and Communication Collaborate with architecture, security, and product teams to understand project requirements, end goals, and technical constraints.Fill in gaps in architectural designs, ensuring comprehensive and actionable development plans.Provide clear communication to the engineering team regarding project objectives, requirements, and timelines.Clearly communicate any risks to delivery which you identify with stakeholders.Technical Guidance and Development Ensure engineers have a clear understanding of what they are developing and the requirements around it.Provide technical guidance, code reviews, and support to engineers to maintain high-quality code and best practices.Identify and resolve technical challenges and bottlenecks during the development process.Ensure all PCI activities are well understood and delivered in your area.Still participate in the development tasks to ensure timelines are met.Project Planning and Sizing Work with product and other stakeholders to support sizing activities for upcoming work.Provide accurate estimates and feedback on technical options, risks, and dependencies.Ensure that project plans are realistic, achievable, and aligned with overall business objectives.Stakeholder Engagement Engage with stakeholders to gather feedback, provide updates, and ensure alignment on project progress and technical decisions.Act as a point of contact for technical queries and issues related to the product.Communicate technical concepts and trade-offs effectively to non-technical stakeholders.Technology Leadership Collaborate with other tech leads to ensure alignment on overarching deliverables between products.Participate in cross-functional meetings to share knowledge, address common challenges, and drive consistency.Ensure collective alignment and drive strategic engineering work and best practices across teams.Work with other Tech Leads and senior technology leadership to agree on technology adoption and strategic direction and ensure this is being followed in day-to-day squad activities.Strategic Engineering and Best Practices Drive the adoption of best practices, coding standards, and development methodologies within the team.Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to continuously improve the engineering process.Promote a culture of quality, scalability, and maintainability in the development of products.Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering department.Stay up to date with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices.Encourage a culture of innovation and continuous learning among engineering staff.What we need you to be good at. To be successful in this role you will need to be an excellent communicator, be able to understand technical concepts well and understand architectural design decisions. You will need to be proactive in understanding product and business drivers, so you are able to have a holistic view of the end goal while managing day-to-day engineering activities. This is a hands-on role so a strong technical background with the ability to code in multiple languages is expected. A passion for learning new technologies is key to this role.

The Engineering team at Worldline NZ is made up of Software Engineers, QA Engineers and Product Engineers, and works in close collaboration with the Architecture team, Infrastructure teams, and other Platform teams. The team works hard together to define new features for our products and works together in sprints to deliver these features to our customers. We think you'll love working with us!
Who you will work with outside your team. Platform & Architecture teams – as well as leading the engineering teams, you will be a part of the technology leadership team working closely with your counterparts across platforms and architecture.Product, Marketing and Sales teams – as part of this role you will be working with some key roles as stakeholders including Head of Product, Product owners, Head of Marketing and Sales teams to understand their strategic objectives and outcomes.People and Finance teams – when it comes to headcount the People team will be your go-to contacts to support you in getting the right people on board, as will the Finance team in ensuring you've got the budget for any resourcing needs.Worldline NZ clients and partners – Our digital products have a lot of customers, both large and small. You'll be meeting and interacting with these customers from time to time, and working to help meet and anticipate their needs.Do you qualify? As a technical lead, you will possess:Experience (or potential in) leading teams and a passion for providing guidance and developing people and their potential.Engineering background and proven experience leading an engineering team to achieve project goals and objectives.Proven experience in driving the right technology outcomes in a product-led organization, balancing delivery and technology imperatives.Strong understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies (Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, etc.).General knowledge of cloud computing trade-offs and best practices.Proven results-oriented person with a focus on delivery.Experience communicating with technical and non-technical stakeholders.6+ years experience in software development or relevant discipline across multiple languages.The following competencies and skills:Strong Leadership potential - with the urge to grow and develop team members; set clear expectations; provide regular feedback; focus on their wellbeing and create a good culture within the team.Collaboration - with the urge of creating connections within and outside of the team.Resilience - with the ability to adjust and be agile with change.Technically proficient – with the ability to understand technical concepts well and understand architectural design decisions.Team Player – with the desire to effectively promote the team's achievements.Communication skills and stakeholder management.Business acumen - with the ability to grasp broad business concepts.Action oriented with the ability to be proactive and responsive.Results oriented with the focus on delivery.Project planning - with the ability to plan realistically and inform stakeholders accordingly.Self-actualising – with the desire to look at better/more efficient ways of completing the work i.e AI.The Formal Stuff: Department – Product & Technology.Reporting to – Head of Engineering.Direct Reports – Engineers (3-5).
