Job Responsibilities:
Oversee daily activities and ensure the team's overall wellness on-site.
Facilitate weekly team hui for planning and open communication.
Provide support and guidance while maintaining firm leadership to enable staff to perform at their best.
Assist with recruitment of Taiao Rangers.
2. Health and Safety Compliance:
Implement and monitor health and safety protocols, including hazard identification and Site Docs management.
Ensure all team members are trained in and adhere to H&S procedures.
3. Training and Development:
Provide basic training on tool usage, maintenance, and operational procedures.
Encourage continuous learning and upskilling within the team.
4. Project Execution:
Carry out planting plans and pest control activities as per project requirements.
Ensure the team follows plans accurately and efficiently, using discretion to adapt when necessary.
Support the facilitation of Community Give Back days, workshops, wananga.
5. Operational Oversight:
Conduct regular stocktakes of tools and equipment.
Maintain general oversight of daily operations, ensuring tasks are completed to a high standard.
6. Reporting and Communication:
Report regularly to senior management using provided templates.
Maintain open lines of communication regarding project progress and team dynamics.
Observe and record the Taiao through tohutaka.
Help to maintain current relationships that support the delivery outcomes of Te Pu-a-nga Maara.
7. Cultural Integration:
Uphold and integrate tikanga and a cultural lens into all aspects of the team's work.
Foster an environment where cultural practices are respected and observed.
8. Innovation and Adaptability:
Be open to trying new methods and innovations in environmental restoration.
Balance traditional practices with innovative approaches to improve project outcomes.
Assist in creating resources, programmes and workshops to assist in reviving korero tuku iho.
9. Reporting Duties:
Ensure work is allocated on a daily basis for team and undertake weekly team hui.
Ensure daily tool box is completed and all team members have signed in on arrival.
Ensure weekly team reports are completed and submitted.
Ensure weekly vehicle checks are completed.
Notification is sent daily for any absences.
Identify any additional training required for staff members.
Storage and maintenance of TPNM Vehicle.
Skills and Experience Required:
Proven experience in managing and leading teams and working with Rangatahi, particularly in environmental or conservation projects.
Ability to handle team dynamics effectively and foster a positive team culture.
Experience in pest management and native planting.
Familiarity with executing planting plans and adapting them as needed.
Experience in conducting field research, ecological surveys and habitat assessments is advantageous.
3. Cultural Competency:
Strong understanding and practice of te reo me ona tikanga Maori.
Ability to integrate cultural perspectives into daily operations and team management.
Ability to apply a cultural lens in all restoration projects.
4. Health and Safety Knowledge:
Comprehensive understanding of health and safety regulations.
Experience in hazard identification and implementing safety protocols.
5. Communication Skills:
Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
Proficient in reporting and using communication tools for engagement.
Capable of communicating with diverse audiences.
6. Training Abilities:
Skilled in providing training on tools, equipment maintenance, and safety procedures.
Capable of mentoring and developing team members' skills.
Physical fitness for outdoor activities and fieldwork.
7. Licenses and Certifications:
Full New Zealand Driver's License.
Relevant certifications in health and safety (i.e. First Aid) are advantageous.
