Other (Science & Technology) Government (Government & Defence) Role type : Fixed term full-time until June 2026 Location : Wellington Salary range : Band C: $117,035 to $156,888 depending on skills and experience Priority will be given to staff members with affected status As the Team Manager Pacific Partnership, you will be responsible for the delivery of a capability development programme which is funded through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT). This programme partners with a group of Pacific Ministries of Agriculture (or equivalent) to support sustainable phytosanitary (plant health) export systems and has been developed to improve the livelihood of Pacific farmers, exporters and their communities involved in exporting fresh produce. Due to the nature of this role, you will be expected to develop strong working relationships with your MFAT colleagues and counterparts in the Pacific to maintain commitment and confidence in the programme. The responsibilities of this position will develop over time so you will need to adapt as the environment evolves. These include: Leading and managing staff to ensure team engagement, provide clear direction and expectations, performance management and opportunities for learning and development. Implementing programme management disciplines across the team and programme to ensure on-time delivery to meet agreed milestones, reporting requirements, and active management of risks and issues. Develop and deliver in-country capability building projects that recognise and are adapted to local culture, conditions, and resources to maximise the effectiveness of the new export systems. Managing all resources and outcomes including health and safety, recruitment, financial, planning, monitoring and measuring and reporting. Supporting the Director Biosecurity Import and Export Standards by providing advice and assisting with directorate priorities. You will be expected to undertake some travel. To be successful in this role, you will be an experienced people leader with the ability to build a strong team culture to lead and implement change. You are an excellent communicator in cross-cultural settings, including experience working with Pacific cultures. Ideally, you will also have: A relevant tertiary qualification in a biological science or a related discipline. Advanced knowledge of biosecurity and export systems. The ability to collaborate through partner organisations to deliver outcomes. Experience in the public sector environment. You do not need to meet all of the role requirements to apply. The Pacific Partnership team is part of the Biosecurity Import & Export Standards directorate within Biosecurity New Zealand. The team is made up of 4 staff all located in Wellington City. While the Programme is a key deliverable, the team is also responsible for other Pacific plant health engagement and works with the rest of the directorate on Pacific related work, including standards development.
