The Opportunity Our Science team at the Otago Regional Council is looking for a Team Leader- Land to join the team on a full-time (37.5 hours per week), permanent basis in our busy Dunedin office.
The Team Leader - Land currently manages six scientists within the broader science team, overseeing the groundwater, land and soil, and air quality programmes.
The purpose of the Team Leader - Land will be to manage scientists and research programs, setting priorities and resources for current and new projects.
With expertise in research design, data analysis, and effective communication, the Team Leader will foster strong partnerships to deliver impactful scientific and environmental outcomes.
This role requires strategic leadership at the intersection of science and policy, ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks and facilitating collaboration across teams.
The Team Leader will guide the team in delivering technical knowledge to inform resource management decisions for Otago's future.
As a Team Leader - Land, you will be responsible for: Maintaining and enhancing the team environment, fostering and developing effective working relationships and a high- standard of delivery.
Managing research projects, investigations, State of the Environment monitoring functions and activities as outlined by the Council's Annual Plan, Long Term Plan, Strategic Plan and Science Strategy Providing appropriate and timely project management and technical input into the Council's policy development, resource consent, investigative and statutory processes.
Actively contributing to the Science Team Leadership group, supporting a culture of integration and collaboration Providing support to the Manager Science to enhance the reputation and performance of ORC's Science Team About you A relevant post-graduate qualification or relevant work history 5+ years' experience in a similar role, ideally within a regional council Knowledge of the Resource Management Act 1991, and consent or plan development processes Experience in working with multi-disciplinary teams and managing projects.
Experience in building effective relationships with all levels of Council, iwi, other governmental agencies, stakeholders, and the community.
Excellent written, oral and presentation skills.
Experience in leading projects and teams.
