This role will lead and support a small, high performing team of Advisors Connected Communities. You will develop and maintain strong relationships with community sector groups while developing strategic approaches for Kapiti's vulnerable voices including but not limited to Youth, Older persons, Disability and Ethnic groups. You will also lead the annual community grant allocations as well as provide advice and support to the council's funding recipients.
Skills and Experience A tertiary qualification in a relevant area of expertise (e.g. social, economic, or environmental).5+ years relevant experience in a similar role with seniority.Experience in or working with local or central government.Experience in community engagement and working alongside community to develop and support community led initiatives.Demonstrated expertise in project management – both methodology and practical aspects.Experience in leading public participation and community engagement, including consulting with, collaborating with and empowering communities in decision – making processes.Sound knowledge of policy frameworks and policy development process.Intellectual ability, problem solving and analysis, decision making, management and design of complex projects, persuading and influencing, plain English writing and presentation skills.A competent level of capability with MS Suite applications (i.e. Word, Excel and Outlook).Demonstrated high level of motivation with initiative and ability to provide policy options which are both creative and pragmatic and meet statutory requirements.A collaborative working style which welcomes and values diversity and contributes to an inclusive working environment where differences are acknowledged and respected.Understanding and awareness of tikanga Maori, Maori perspectives and issues relevant to Maori.Effective interpersonal skills with a demonstrated commitment to customer service and willingness to and capability for working with a wide range of people within and outside the organization.Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective professional working relationships with all key stakeholders, including with other council staff members based on a collaborative, collegial and cooperative working style.Effective time management skills and ability to work effectively without supervision and collaboratively as an effective team member.Holder of a current and valid NZ Drivers' licenceBeautiful beaches and a short journey to or from Wellington make the Kapiti Coast a great place to live and work.
