About the Role
As the Team Lead – Catchment Coordination, you will play a vital role in leading our dedicated team in supporting community-led catchment management. You will be responsible for providing guidance and mentorship to our regional catchment coordinator and two catchment interns, empowering them to deliver their best. You will also take charge of budget management, reporting, and ensuring clear, consistent communication with the council and external stakeholders. Through your leadership, we aim to make tangible improvements to water quality across the West Coast, building a healthier environment for all.
What You Will Be Doing
Operational Leadership
Lead resource allocation across your team, optimising funds, people, and tools to meet strategic goals.
Work collaboratively with the Group Manager Corporate Services and stakeholders to ensure our team is fully equipped for success.
Mentor and support your team to take on challenges and grow in their roles, fostering a positive, growth-oriented culture.
Conduct regular check-ins with team members, providing continuous feedback and guidance to enhance project success.
Budget Management
Oversee the financial planning, reporting, and budget management for the Catchment Coordination project.
Use data-driven insights to make informed recommendations and continuously seek ways to enhance operational efficiency.
Engagement & Partnership
Build and strengthen relationships with Poutini Ngai Tahu, whenua Maori landowners, and the wider community to support the Essential Freshwater Reforms.
Ensure effective communication with stakeholders, council members, and the community, promoting the program's achievements and progress.
Project Management
Oversee the Deed of Funding for the Essential Freshwater Fund project, including proposal development, budgeting, and timeline management.
Provide regular updates and insights on project performance, working closely with the Group Manager – Environmental Science.
What You Will Bring
We are looking for someone who is not only experienced in freshwater ecosystem management but also a natural leader with a heart for community engagement and a head for strategic oversight. Your skills in project management, financial acumen, and collaboration will be key, along with your commitment to fostering a supportive and growth-oriented team culture.
Educational Background:
Tertiary training in either environmental, soil and water science, hydrology, physical geography, or related field is desirable, but not essential if relevant knowledge and experience can be demonstrated.
Professional Experience:
Five years' experience in a supervisory role or higher, preferably within a public sector or governmental business unit.
Proven track record in project planning, financial management, operational efficiency, and team leadership.
Experience in social change projects and working with local communities to drive change.
