We are recruiting for an exciting opportunity and are seeking a qualified and experienced processing officer to join the Building Control Leadership Team as the Team Leader Building Control - Processing.

With strong commercial investment in the city, a rising housing market and continued growth, Upper Hutt City Building Team is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, and highly motivated individual to join our expanding Building Control Services team. We are committed to customer service and need someone who can assist our customers in facilitating development in Upper Hutt while ensuring that building projects comply with legislative requirements and standards.
The Team Leader Building Control - Processing (TLBCP) will play an important role in working with the Building Control Services Manager to ensure building consent processing and related works are undertaken efficiently, and to a high standard whilst appropriately managing risk. The TLBCP will manage a caseload of building consent applications, including more complex applications, manage and allocate workloads and provide leadership and oversight of the day-to-day activities of the building control processing team.
You will be responsible for maintaining accurate records and information databases in support of the Council's continued status as an accredited Building Control Authority. Cumulatively your work alongside the wider team will help to transform our city.
Ideally you will have:
An advanced level of knowledge of the Building Act, Building Code and other relevant legislation as it relates to the building industry.
An appropriate qualification in building or a design related field that will be recognised by Regulation 18 of the Building (Accreditation of Building Consent Authorities) Regulations 2006
OR A relevant technical and/or trade qualification and be willing to work towards a Regulation 18 qualification;
5+ years relevant experience in building control.
Holds residential and commercial processing competencies.
An ability to confidently and clearly communicate technical issues and concepts;
Excellent customer service focus, including good listening skills;
Competent in MS suite of products, general computer use and the ability to adapt to new computer programs easily. The ability to use GoGet is an advantage;
Good administration and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads to meet statutory deadlines;
A current driver's licence.
