Based in Otepoti/Dunedin, the School of Physical Education, Sport and Exercise Sciences/Te Kura Para-Whakawai at the University of Otago/ Otakou Whakaihu Waka has a long-standing international reputation as a leader in education, research and community service. The Role/Te Mahi
We invite applications for a one-year fixed term Teaching Fellow/Senior Teaching Fellow with expertise in Sport Coaching or Pedagogy to coordinate and deliver effective research informed teaching for SPEX 207 Understanding Sports Coaching and SPEX 307 Coaching, Leadership and Mentoring and supervise students in our practicum paper SPEX 316.

The general expectations for the role include the following key tasks:

Coordinate and deliver effective research-informed undergraduate teaching and learning in our SPEX 207 Understanding Sports Coaching and SPEX 307 Coaching, Leadership and Mentoring papers as well as contribute to teaching at 100-level.
Develop and mark assessments and exams, providing constructive and timely feedback to students on their progress towards learning outcomes.
Supervise students in SPEX 316.
Contribute to the effective and efficient running of the School and its responsibilities within the University and out to the wider community.
Promoting the School's efforts to understand and realise the letter and the spirit of the University's Maori Strategic Framework, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

The successful candidate will have:

A post-graduate qualification related to sport coaching, pedagogy, physical education or leadership.
Experience of effective teaching at a tertiary or secondary institution.
Commitment to upholding values, tikanga, kawa and traditions, as guided by Kai Tahu who are mana whenua in the region.
An ability to form collaborations and work collegially.


Practical experience of supporting the delivery of sport coaching/education opportunities within community contexts is desirable.

This is a one-year fixed-term, full-time (1 FTE) position, with a start date in January 2025.
The appointment range for a Teaching Fellow is $70,692 - $96,058 and Senior Teaching Fellow is $98,640 to $128,305. Appointment will be dependent on academic achievement, skills, and experience.
