Teaching Fellow - Archaeology at University of Otago, WaikatoThe Archaeology Programme at the University of Otago/ Otakou Whakaihu Waka has an international reputation for our teaching and research about the human past of Aotearoa New Zealand, the wider Pacific region, and Asia.
Our undergraduate teaching contributes to the Anthropology major in the Bachelor of Arts, while our postgraduate courses include specialist programmes in archaeological research and heritage management.
We are committed to working closely with iwi and Maori organisations, and especially value our relationship with Kai Tahu, the mana whenua within their takiwa of Te Waipounamu.
The role/Te mahi We are looking for an enthusiastic Teaching Fellow to contribute to the teaching team in Archaeology. The position offers a teaching role in a well-established programme with a proud academic reputation, focusing on the communities and cultures of the Pacific hemisphere.
The successful candidate will contribute to our core curriculum of archaeological method and theory, regional and world archaeology.
We are seeking candidates able to contribute to the following courses: Human Origins and CivilisationsPacific and New Zealand ArchaeologyArchaeological MethodsArchaeological PracticeLandscape ArchaeologyThe appointee will be expected to convene courses; deliver regular lectures; coordinate tutors and laboratory demonstrators; deal with student enquiries; mark internal assessment and final exams. Archaeology has a strong postgraduate research culture, and you may also be expected to undertake the supervision of honours and coursework masters dissertation projects.
The successful candidate will be expected to: hold or be working towards a relevant postgraduate qualification and/or teaching qualificationhave a track record in successful teaching at the tertiary levelhave broad knowledge of archaeological methods, practice and research resultshold an appreciation and respect for tikanga Maori, matauranga Maori, and Pasifika knowledge, practices, and understandings.This is a part-time (0.8 FTE), fixed-term position for three years, based in Dunedin. The hours of work are negotiable with the successful candidate. We welcome applications from candidates interested in part-time hours up to 0.8 FTE, as well as job-sharing arrangements.
The appointment range is $85,523 to $96,058 per annum. You must have the right to live and work in New Zealand to apply for this role.
