Teaching Aides & Special Needs (Education & Training)Mangorei School is a city school with a country heart, and we are seeking an organised, nurturing, experienced, and empathetic Teacher Aide to provide one-on-one support for a Year 7 student who permanently utilises a wheelchair.This is a part-time, term-time only position commencing on 5th February 2025 for 16 hours per week. Rate of Pay in accordance with the Support Staff in Schools Collective Agreement; Teacher Aide Grade B/C, Step and work rota to be negotiated.The Teacher Aide should ideally have previous experience in such a role, but alternatively, have transferable skills of a positive, proactive attitude, excellent communication skills, and the ability to act as a primary go-to person for our student. Our ideal candidate would enjoy working with children, have a patient disposition, and be able to provide a structured approach to learning support. To be successful for this role, it is crucial for us to find the right "fit" for this role and for our student.Requirements of the role are the abilities to:Provide a reassuring presence by presenting a patient and calm demeanourHelp manage stressors in the classroom environmentAssist the student to concentrate and complete classroom workEstablish a supportive relationship with the student as well as teaching staff and parentsContribute to feedback around the student's performanceSupport the student's social skill developmentAssist the student with transfers in and out of their wheelchair (a reasonable level of physical fitness would be advantageous)Confident driver - flexibility to drive a small mobility vehicle to transport the studentBe comfortable assisting the student with toileting/showering and dressingDemonstrate assertiveness while being fair and kindOur student is an extrovert with a bubbly personality.
