Develop and lead the Research and Innovation Strategy at UC.

Deliver outcomes in the research impact and commercialisation of UC's intellectual property.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation) at Te Whare Wananga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury is responsible for developing and implementing the University's research and innovation strategy, ensuring that research policies, plans, and processes build upon Canterbury's distinctive contributions to national and global significant research.

Reporting to the Vice-Chancellor, this role will provide advice on research policy and strategy, promote research, research training and engagement with government, industry, other universities and research institutes to foster a high-performance research culture that raises research productivity and impact. The DVC (R&I) will contribute as a key member of the Executive team to build a shared leadership culture that positions Te Whare Wananga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury for a sustainable future.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong research leadership and management capabilities that engages internal and external stakeholders to achieve a whole of university approach to implementing the University's research and innovation strategy. You will have a track record of translating strategy into successful delivery, strong communication and people skills, with strong experience in engagement with industry, government and other stakeholders. Also important are the capacity to secure external funding and build industry and other partnerships locally and internationally. You will be responsible for developing and implementing a commercialisation strategy for the University and optimising outcomes.

The successful candidate will be appointed to the Te Tumu Tuarua | Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation) position as a term appointment (usually five years). Following the term, the successful candidate will transition into a continuing academic position at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. Academic rank will be assessed at the appointment stage.
