Job Description About the role – Systems and Automation Engineer Salary: $120,000 per annum Hours: 45 hours per week Type: Full time and permanent We are looking for a Systems and Automation Engineer to join the team at our Ashburton plant. You will be responsible for optimizing the industrial process of manufacturing while maintaining automated machinery used in the process. Additionally, you will conduct troubleshooting and maintenance activities to optimize the performance of all automated manufacturing machinery across the entire site. As a Systems and Automation Engineer, you will be responsible for: Leading and working with engineers to install, maintain, and troubleshoot control systems and various automation processes. Producing detailed engineering documentation that is clear and concise. Preparing Functional Descriptions. Working with stakeholders to define systems requirements. Ensuring that changes reflect the direction of the agreed roadmap, company standards, and guidelines. Implementing changes to meet updated requirements and assisting with commissioning. Troubleshooting and resolving issues with equipment and systems and providing Root Cause Analyses where required. Managing and maintaining backups and documentation in a usable manner. Imparting knowledge to process operators to develop their understanding of the plant and their ability to undertake routine checks. Participating in production, product development, sales, and engineering projects as required. Developing project pricing for small and medium automation projects. Interpreting machine designs, P&ID, and functional descriptions. Developing electrical schematics, Document control structure, and electrical wiring using Eplan P8. Qualifications For this role, you'll need: Engineering tertiary trade qualification. 5 years of relevant experience. Electrical training. Computer skills – intermediate plus across all MS programs. Platform experience (preferred but not essential): Schneider PLC – Legacy and modern Rockwell PLC & HMI – Legacy and modern Siemens PLC & HMI – Modern AVEVA InTouch & System Platform SCADA Inductive Automation Ignition SCADA Microsoft SQL Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate the work of a team effectively. Food processing experience an advantage. Strong English speaking and writing skills. Ability to read and follow written instructions. Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment. Strong organisational and problem-solving skills. Commitment to Essential Health and Safety Requirements (EHSR) excellence. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and follow strict procedures. Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
