Nau mai, haere mai ki Starship Child Health! Starship Child Health, Auckland, New Zealand is inviting applications for a 12-month surgical fellowship position in Paediatric and Congenital Cardiac surgery commencing from March 2025.

Work in New Zealand's premier children's hospital for a National Service Fixed-term, full-time role Great opportunity to train in a setting with world-leading surgical, medical, ICU and anaesthetic care The role's primary purpose is to provide advanced training and experience in Paediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery at Starship Hospital.

In this role, you will work closely with a highly skilled and dedicated team of cardiac surgeons, cardiologists, registrars and nursing staff managing a wide range of acute conditions with multidisciplinary input.

You will have a high level of autonomy with supervised on-call work and will be actively involved in the supervision of registrars and other unit activities.

Clinical research will be strongly encouraged. The Greenlane Paediatric and Congenital Cardiac Service (PCCS) is a national service based at Starship Children's Hospital, Auckland.

It is the sole provider of cardiology and cardiac surgical services for infants, children and adults with congenital and acquired heart disease in New Zealand and several Pacific Island nations.

The unit has a catchment population of four and a half million and we are performing over 400 cases per year of which 350 are bypasses.

Twenty percent of the procedures are performed in neonates and 15% are adult congenital operations. Current outcomes are excellent with overall 30-day mortality of below 2% and neonatal mortality of below 4% (including a Norwood program).

Important Skills To be successful in this role, you will require:

MBChB or equivalent FRACS or equivalent / possession of a postgraduate qualification in Surgery Eligible to be registered as a Medical Practitioner in New Zealand Experience in paediatric cardiac surgery Experience in adult cardiac surgery Applicants must be eligible to work in New Zealand. Preference will be given to New Zealand Citizens and New Zealand residents as per New Zealand employment requirements, though overseas candidates are welcome to apply.
