Support Worker - Little Gem

Details of the offer

Mo matou | About Hohepa

Working at Hohepa is different from the average; you become part of our community of people, staff, volunteers, and contractors who all have a common goal - helping people to reach their full potential and lead enriched and meaningful lives in a holistic, supportive environment. We are a community leader providing services and support for people living with an intellectual disability to live their best lives and find a valued place in our society. Inspired by Dr Rudolf Steiner's principles of anthroposophy, we seek to understand each person and situation as unique, not a one-size-fits-all philosophy.

Mo te turanga | About the Role

Little Gem is a vibrant home based in Wigram, where four remarkable young adults live together. Shaun, Sara, Baxter, and Brooke are all in their 20s and have been housemates since early this year. Baxter, an Olympic swimmer, loves visiting Margaret Mahy Playground and uses communication devices. Shaun, who also uses communication devices, is passionate about basketball and writing, and is also striving to become more independent. Brooke, who recently moved into Little Gem from her family home, has a passion for Halloween and all things spooky, and she loves dressing up to visit cafes and getting her hair and nails done. Sara is full of energy and loves dancing; she enjoys helping out around the house and participates in various afternoon activities, from Jolt to Upclub.

We're looking for someone to join the Little Gem house to make a positive impact and build confidence and independence for the people we support. You will be energetic, empathetic, and able to work alongside this person, focusing on creating a life of rich and diverse experiences while being able to read situations, problem-solve, and apply boundaries or offer space. Daily tasks include supporting daily routines while encouraging independence to develop skills and personal growth. You will have the confidence to support personal cares, cooking, medication administration, and household tasks. You will be passionate about supporting and extending people's ability to access and be part of their wider community. If you are looking for a new challenge, this could be the opportunity for you.

This position's salary scale is set by pay equity and depends on qualification level, paying between $23.15 and $28.25 per hour.
