Our primary focus is on academic excellence, and we recognise that sporting, cultural and citizenship values have an important place in our curriculum and endeavour to provide those opportunities to our students.An opening has arisen within our Athlete Development Department for an Athletic Development Coach to join our team on a full-time basis.TBC has an extensive sports programme and believes every young person has the opportunity to reach their athletic potential.
The AD Dept currently engages with over 800 athletes across 36 sports from learning to train, to training to compete.As an Athletic Development Coach, you will support the long-term athletic development strategy for years 9-13, while working directly with the Director of Sport, Head of Athlete Development, Lead Strength and Conditioning Coach, and Sports Coaches to facilitate the Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD), rehabilitation, and/or general Physical Education faculty programmes within the school.Typical weekly schedule:7.00 am to 8.30 am: Support Sports teams (those that are allocated to you), the junior athlete development programme, and lead speed school.
This includes programme delivery, engaging and connecting with the Athletes and Sports Coaches and Physiotherapists.8.40 am to 3.10 pm: Support the Athlete Development programme run through options (juniors) and subjects (seniors).
Each group has 2 lifts per week.
Support the PE faculty with strength and conditioning programmes aligned to Achievement standards.3:30 pm – 5.00 pm: Delivering and/or supporting Athletic Development within the Sports programme (those codes that are allocated to you).Within this time, it is expected you would have approximately 30 hours of contact with athletes and 10 hours of preparation.Key skills and experiences:Practical experience with Athletic Development programmes across sporting codes.Expertise in speed development.Suitable qualifications in the sports industry.Affinity for working with young people.Requirements and attributes:Building strong relationships.Understanding strength and conditioning practices.Understanding Health and Safety practices.Excellent communicator and listener.Well-organised.Strong interpersonal skills.Passion for all sports.Growth mindset.Approachable.Hard-working.Flexible.This position is covered under the NZEI Support Staff in Schools Collective Agreement, and the successful candidate will be placed on the correct scale depending on skills and experience.Applications close: 3pm on 17th January 2025.Start date: Early February 2025 (negotiable).Applicants must have the legal right to live and work in NZ to be considered for this position.
