Come and make a difference with us
At Western Bay of Plenty District Council we believe our future belongs to the changemakers. The chance-takers and wall breakers.
We believe we all have the power to do extraordinary things. To make decisions that matter.
For our people. For our communities. For each other.
We're on a journey to become a District with strong and sustainable community partnerships, that embraces the diversity of the area and is bold in its vision for change.
At Western Bay we strongly believe in investing in, and empowering our people to achieve their goals and aspirations. If you are interested in joining the Western Bay family, please apply today.
The opportunity
If you love the Western Bay and its outdoors, have a great sense of humour and love chatting with people - we have the perfect summer job for you.
Council is looking for two additional energetic ambassadors to visit Western Bay's freedom camping spots, parking areas and beaches over Summer to make sure everyone is enjoying their stay and to educate freedom campers on the District's freedom camping opportunities.
This is a fixed term, full time role, 5 days per week including weekend work.
As part of the Freedom Camping campaign, the ambassadors' role will be visiting freedom camping spots in Waihi Beach, Katikati, Omokoroa, Maketu, Te Puke and Pukehina from 9th December 2024 through to Waitangi weekend.
You will help us find out more about our campers, such as what attracted them to the area, do they use registered camps at all, why they freedom camp, where do they shop, are they passing through, or are we a destination. The information you will gather will help build a better picture of our visitors and the choices they make when camping. This information will also be used to guide future Council projects.
To set you up for success, you'll have
A current full Driver's Licence and ability to drive manual cars
High integrity and ability to work autonomously
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and build on working relationships
Sound communication skills
Good thinking and problem solving ability
Ability to read and interpret plans, diagrams and regulations
Comfortable relating to people from a variety of different cultures and backgrounds.
