Position PurposeThe Student Wellbeing Advisor is part of a university wide Student Care team building the capacity of other kamahi and akonga to support those akonga experiencing emotional distress, mental health issues or displaying concerning behaviour.
This role collaborates broadly to promote and develop the overall wellbeing and resilience of the student body.
Core ResponsibilitiesProvide Student Wellbeing Advisory services with emphasis on those akonga living in university halls of Residence.Collaborate with fellow Student Wellbeing Advisors to achieve the best possible wellbeing and achievement outcomes for all akonga.Framework and ComplianceThe role understands student wellbeing within a shared university wide framework, assisting in the provision of a responsive and effective pastoral care service that improves akonga success, retention, and experience across the three campuses, as well as for distance akonga.
Central to this role is the ability to employ a Te Tiriti-led approach to uplifting the health and wellbeing of akonga at the university, acknowledging the importance of whanaungatanga and manaakitanga in advancing akonga success.
Works to Health Care standards, including Health and Disability requirements, and complies with the Education (Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners) Code of Practice 2021, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Health, and Safety requirements, and internal policy frameworks.
Key RelationshipsAssociate Director: Student WellbeingLocal & national health service providersStudent Care Team and Student Counselling Team colleaguesHealth Centre colleaguesHalls of ResidenceAccountabilities and OutcomesEnsure akonga safety, wellbeing, inclusion, and academic successCollaborate with university kamahi and stakeholders to address urgent and sensitive issues effectively.Integrate EDI principles into problem-solving and decision-making processes.Proactive and responsive wellbeing resourcesPlan, develop, and implement health and wellbeing promotion for akonga and kamahi.Develop and deliver psychoeducational presentations in response to requests and needs.Maintain relationships with internal and external agencies to ensure akonga receive appropriate access to services.Advice and SupportFacilitate the perspectives of akonga communities in university decision making.Support the wider student wellbeing team with content development for workshops and events.Akonga case management and care plansEngage akonga in supportive conversations about wellbeing concerns, developing care and management plans collaboratively.Establish relationships with professional services for monitoring and support plan implementation.Optimal use of systems and processesWork as part of the wider Student Care Team according to established systems and protocols.Participate in Case Conferences and Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings as required.Qualifications and ExperienceAn appropriate professional qualification in a relevant mental health discipline.Experience and skills in assessment, communication, and relationship management.Experience in developing and delivering educational health promotion content.CapabilitiesCommunication skills for effective interaction with diverse demographics.Teamwork and flexibility in a multi-disciplinary environment.Technical skills for effective note keeping and your administrative skills.Pre-employment ChecksCriminal and Traffic Convictions Check.Credit History Check.Qualifications Validation Check.
