Opotiki District Council is seeking a Strategic Policy Analyst to join our Strategy and Development Group.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to improved council policy and procedure with a focus on delivering the strategic planning activities of the council, such as the long-term and annual plans, and the Pre-Election report.
You will also play a role in maintaining internal/external policies and writing submissions to external parties.
Responsibilities You will be able to work effectively and independently across all groups of the organisation and enjoy bringing a systems approach to the role.
You will be pro-active in monitoring legislative requirements and obligations, be a strong communicator, and able to build successful relationships with internal and external customers, iwi and hapu, and key stakeholders.
You will be responsible for: Policy development and management Strategic planning and development Building and holding positive relationships both internally and externally Encouraging engagement through consultations and communications with stakeholders, elected members, staff, and the community Being part of a small team who monitor the delivery of the Long-Term Plan Developing and maintaining detailed project strategies, plans, and budgets for development projects Monitoring legislative requirements and statutory obligations of Council Ideally you will have: Relevant tertiary qualification, e.g.
public policy, planning, commerce or related field At least 3 years' experience in strategy and policy development An understanding of policy development and alignment to legislative requirements Good overall knowledge of relevant local government legislation Experience in consultation and stakeholder engagement High level of computer literacy using Microsoft Office Understanding and commitment to Te Tiriti O Waitangi About the district Opotiki district has a relatively small population but it is huge in size, opportunity, and culture: it also boasts one of the most beautiful coastlines in the country!
