Do you enjoy working across multiple areas, with a broad range of people?Opotiki District Council is seeking a Strategic Policy Analyst to join our Strategy and Development Group. In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to improved council policy and procedure with a focus on delivering the strategic planning activities of the council, such as the long-term and annual plans, and the Pre-Election report. You will also play a role in maintaining internal/external policies and writing submissions to external parties.ResponsibilitiesYou will be able to work effectively and independently across all groups of the organisation and enjoy bringing a systems approach to the role. You will be pro-active in monitoring legislative requirements and obligations, be a strong communicator, and able to build successful relationships with internal and external customers, iwi and hapu, and key stakeholders.You will be responsible for:Policy development and managementStrategic planning and developmentBuilding and holding positive relationships both internally and externallyEncouraging engagement through consultations and communications with stakeholders, elected members, staff, and the communityBeing part of a small team who monitor the delivery of the Long-Term PlanDeveloping and maintaining detailed project strategies, plans, and budgets for development projectsMonitoring legislative requirements and statutory obligations of CouncilIdeally you will have:Relevant tertiary qualification, e.g. public policy, planning, commerce or related fieldAt least 3 years' experience in strategy and policy developmentAn understanding of policy development and alignment to legislative requirementsGood overall knowledge of relevant local government legislationExperience in consultation and stakeholder engagementHigh level of computer literacy using Microsoft OfficeUnderstanding and commitment to Te Tiriti O WaitangiAbout the districtOpotiki district has a relatively small population but it is huge in size, opportunity, and culture: it also boasts one of the most beautiful coastlines in the country!
