Strategic Media Advisor (Coroners Court) | Wellington CityThe Strategic Media Advisor (Coroners Court) is responsible for managing all communications pertaining to coronial inquiries, ensuring information relayed to the media and public is both accurate and handled with the utmost sensitivity.
This role involves managing daily media inquiries, developing and implementing media strategies that align with the legal and ethical considerations unique to death investigations, maintaining the dignity of the deceased and their families, while safeguarding public transparency. You will handle crisis communications, correct misinformation, and effectively manage the media portrayal of the coronial process.
Additionally, you will work closely with the Chief Coroner, the Office of the Chief Coroner, the Deputy Chief Coroner, other Coroners and other key stakeholders on strategic media communications and opportunities.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Proven strategic communications experience working both internally and externally to a wide range of audiences, and significant experience working with the media providing responses and managing high profile events.Significant public sector writing experience, including writing responses to official correspondence requests.Proven ability to build credibility and strong working relationships with key stakeholders.Experience delivering content for a range of communications channels, including websites, social media and publications.Proven ability to prioritise work, work under pressure and to tight timeframes, and make timely decisions that stand up to scrutiny.Understanding and knowledge of the processes of government.Good working knowledge of the Official Information and Privacy Acts, and familiarity with the Treaty of Waitangi and its application to the work of government agencies.Superior written and oral communication skills.Experience working with the judiciary and a solid understanding of the separation of powers and how to work successfully in this space is preferable.At Te Tahu o te Ture - the Ministry of Justice, we're committed to working together for a fair and safe Aotearoa.
This role is part of the Ministry of Justice's media team within the Communications Services business unit and you will work alongside the Office of the Chief Coroner in your day to day work.
