The Ngati Hine Forestry Trust is a large and rapidly expanding Maori land trust with offices in Whangarei and Moerewa. The Trust lands of approximately 6,000 hectares are centred alongside the rural towns of Moerewa and Kawakawa. The Trust has over 5,500 registered owners represented by seven Trustees who govern the Trust under the authority of a Trust Order pursuant to Section 244 of Te Ture Whenua Maori Act 1993. The Trust has substantial interests in forest leases, owns horticultural orchards in Kerikeri, a manuka honey and pollination operation, a dairy farm, carbon plantation and natives nursery. Wealth creation through these and other interests has seen the Trust assets grow in value over time. The Trust continues to diversify its interests for environmental, economic, cultural and social outcomes. This is a newly created role to support the Trust in continuing to drive growth, efficiency, profitability and operational improvement to meet the Trust's goals. Reporting to the CEO, your role will be to ensure that resources are managed to attain the Trust's long-term goals and strategic objectives and maximise value to beneficial owners over time. We are seeking a keen strategic thinker with a heart for the people and a background in business/finance to help drive the Trust forward. You will be solutions focused with a critical eye for detail and you thrive off getting results. You will be responsible for the strategic planning, implementation, managing and running all the finance activities of the Trust (with appropriate controls). This includes business planning, budgeting, forecasting, risk and governance, and negotiations (as required). You will also be expected to obtain and maintain investor/funder relations and partnership compliance. As a member of executive management, you will interact with and be responsible for financial reporting to the Board and its Audit, Finance and Risk Committee. Other duties and responsibilities include: Developing financial strategy, including risk minimisation plans and opportunity forecasting Providing strategic recommendations to the CEO Managing the processes for financial forecasting and budgets, and the preparation of all financial reporting Regular budget consolidation and cash-flow management Improving efficiencies and reducing costs across the Trust Ensuring appropriate controls and authorities are in place and observed  Advising on long-term business and financial planning Provide commercial insight and leadership across the Trust's businesses in order to exceed business plan targets Responsible for ensuring a risk and compliance management framework is embedded and operational for the Trust Managing accounts payable and receivable Managing staff timesheets, leave, approvals and payroll processing Main point of contact for the Trust with its accountant and auditor Establishing and developing relations with kaimahi, Trustees, beneficial owners, whanau whanui o Ngati Hine and external partners and stakeholders Reviewing and improving all finance, HR and IT related procedures  Extensive business management experience in a senior leadership role (10+ years). A strong background in strategic planning, budgeting and forecasting and financial management - in accounting, finance, audit or similar An understanding and use of Te Reo Maori and experience working within Te Ao Maori (Maori World view) environments. Experience with or aptitude to foster relationships with iwi, hapu and whanau. Preference for applicants with knowledge of the Ngati Hine rohe. An in-depth understanding of local economic development opportunities. Applicants must a hold a minimum of a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business management or related field. Superior writing skills, and a track record in producing high quality written material. The ability to express ideas and communicate technical information clearly and conceptually. Flexibility to pitch in across the Trust's activities where required to help get a job done.
