About the role Our Sterilisation Services play a vital role in supporting the hospital clinical teams by ensuring all medical instruments and equipment are meticulously cleaned, sterilised, and ready for safe patient use. The service operates using advanced sterilisation technology and follows strict infection control standards to prevent contamination and ensure the highest level of patient safety.
About the Team/Service/Location If you are passionate about ensuring the highest standards in sterile services, this is an exciting opportunity to join our dedicated Sterilisation team and be part of a service that makes a real difference to our community. Our team works in the background to decontaminate, inspect, package, and sterilise equipment used in surgeries and other medical procedures. This essential service contributes to the hospital's efficiency, safety, and commitment to providing outstanding healthcare to our community.
As a Sterilise Services Technician, you will: Work alongside a team of skilled professionals in a friendly, patient-centred environment.Work closely with clinical teams to meet equipment needs and ensure timely availability of sterilised items.Perform decontamination, inspection, packaging, and sterilisation of medical instruments and equipment according to hospital protocols and infection control standards.Conduct thorough checks on all sterilised items to ensure cleanliness, functionality, and readiness for use in patient care.You will participate in shifts to cover requirements of theatre schedules Monday to Friday from 7:30am to 20:30 and participate in the after-hours on-call (one day weekly per fortnight and one weekend in 8 once fully trained into the role).
Skills and experience A qualification recognised by the New Zealand Sterile Services Association (NZSSA).High standard for accuracy and thoroughness in sterilisation procedures.Strong communication and teamwork skills to work effectively within a collaborative team environment.Ability to stand for long periods of time and handle the physical demands of sterilisation processes.Commitment to high standards of patient care.Competency with te ao Maori, tikanga, and te reo Maori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth.Experience in projects/initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principles and frameworks, and the application of Matauranga Maori and Kaupapa Maori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.Working for Health New Zealand Health NZ is 'the weaving of wellnesses.'
