About the RoleWhen you join our Statutory Processing team, you'll gain a unique insight into the variety of work DoC does across the motu, and how our most challenging statutory issues are approached and resolved.
Our team manages the entry of work into DOC's permitting system, which includes triage, risk assessment, and assigning permits or concession applications for a variety of activities that we regulate or authorise throughout Aotearoa.
As an Advisor / Senior Statutory Advisor, you'll provide the subject matter expertise, tactical oversight, improvements, and support for conservation statutory application processes.
For a bit of context, we deal with applications and issues including land tenure, Treaty obligations, flora and fauna, scientific research, protected species, commercial activity, Hollywood blockbuster filming applications, adventure sport and activities, and aircraft landings.
This means there's opportunity to interact with other parts of the business; you could be chatting to a ranger on Stewart Island in the morning and Auckland Zoo about saving a washed-up penguin in the afternoon.

For the Advisor level role, you'll bring some of this experience, but most importantly you've had some exposure to working in a regulatory environment, have great communication skills, high attention to detail, and enjoy working in a structured environment.
Regulatory Know-How: You've got experience applying triggers, rules, and legislation to assess risk, complexity, and priority.Technical Advice: You're skilled in providing technical advice for decision-makers, and you enjoy upskilling your teammates.Communication Skills: You've drafted formal correspondence such as Ministerial requests, OIA's, or similar like a pro.Process Improver: You've got a great eye for spotting ways to improve processing systems and processes.Team Player: You thrive in collaborative team environments and excel at managing relationships with a variety of stakeholders.Caseload Juggler: You're adept at managing a busy workload and keeping everything on track.Our VisionNature is thriving in Aotearoa Te Oranga o te Ao Turoa. Statutory Advisor salary range: $68,535 - $86,423
Senior Statutory Advisor salary range: $79,656 - $100,639. The starting salary of the successful applicants will be negotiated based on their level of relevant skills and experience.
