Station Manager | Mount Erin Station - Hawke's Bay Mount Erin Station is an iconic 1180ha property comprising steeper hill country and intensive irrigated flats on the outskirts of Havelock North, Hawke's Bay. Operating as a sheep and cattle breeding and finishing business, Mount Erin Station winters 4,500su and has 60ha of intensive fertile irrigated flats utilised for a mix of cash and forage crops. The partners are passionate about this property and have implemented an integrated farm action plan to meet set goals over the next 5 years for the environment, climate change and biodiversity.
Job Details This Station Manager role has come to the market for the first time in 14 years. The role requires you to be responsible for the implementation of the farm business plan and sustainable operation of Mount Erin Station. You will provide input to the budget around production targets and will manage the property in line with this. The key objective of the role is to maximise profitability and ensure strong stock performance and farm productivity.
As the Station Manager, you will report directly to a nominated representative of Mount Erin (a partner) for the day-to-day operations and to the advisory board on a quarterly basis. You will have key relationships with buyers and suppliers including meat companies, contractors, and service providers. Completing ASD forms, NAIT, Health & Safety and other compliance documentation are also requirements of this role.
WHO We seek a Station Manager with a high degree of practical farming experience who is organised, has the ability to forward plan and think outside the square along with:
Technical capability with farm information systems and software including FarmIQ.
High level of stockmanship and a good team of working dogs, ideally 6.
Open minded and willingness to investigate options and systems.
Suitable tertiary level qualification is desirable.
Strong communication skills.
Understanding of feed and pasture management in a seasonally dry climate.
Staff management experience to support and mentor a shepherd.
The ability to communicate and work in a wider team environment on occasions.
Having a sound understanding of industry policies, standards and regulations.
Knowledge of good implementation of weed control.
An interest and understanding of environmental and compliance requirements.
