Manawatu Community Law Centre – Manawatu County Job Title: Staff Solicitor - Full Time Permanent Hours: 37.5 hours per week Location: Palmerston North (But Local Travel may be required) Responsible to: The MCLC General Manager About the Manawatu Community Law Centre: The Manawatu Community Law Centre ("MCLC") is a non-profit organization that provides legal services and advice to members of the community who are unable to access legal services. We are a team of passionate and dedicated professionals who are committed to serving our community. Job Description: We are seeking a staff solicitor to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing legal advice and representation to clients on a wide range of issues, including but not limited to family law, employment law, tenancy law, and consumer law. The successful candidate will also need to be able to travel to other locations within our region on a regular basis - Feilding, Dannevirke, Levin. Key Responsibilities: Provide legal advice and representation to clients in many different areas of Law Conduct legal research and analysis Draft legal documents and correspondence Represent clients in court and at tribunal hearings Participate in community legal education and outreach activities Work collaboratively with other members of the legal team and support staff Adhere to professional standards of ethics and conduct Travel to other MCLC Clinics and Centres Qualifications and Skills: A law degree from a recognized university Admission as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand Ideally have 1-3 years PQE A valid New Zealand drivers licence Excellent research, analytical, and communication skills Ability to work effectively in a team environment A pragmatic and creative approach to problem solving and dispute resolution Strong commitment to social justice and serving the needs of disadvantaged individuals and communities The ability to relate to a wide range of people Other Benefits: We also offer a range of benefits, including professional development opportunities, flexible working arrangements, and a supportive, collaborative and fun work environment.
