About The RoleOur Energy Spot Trading team based in both Auckland and Hamilton works to maximise the wholesale portfolio value and manage risk in the short-term electricity and fuel markets. We now have a rare opportunity to join our close, hard-working team as a Spot Trader.
Our Spot Trading Desk operates a 24/7 roster to cover the spot trading function with a combination of 12-hour shifts and cover days to support the team. During shifts, you must be comfortable working on your own, whilst independently ensuring appropriate decisions are made based on strategy and guidelines. From time-to-time, cover days are available to further contribute to Spot trading business success and your development.
ResponsibilitiesSpot trade electricity, ancillary services, fuel and gas nominations.Provide input to short-term electricity and fuel markets as required.Operate and understand trading, modelling and forecasting tools.Monitor and analyse the NZ electricity and gas markets to forecast and identify changes in market conditions.Skills And Experience Required2-3 years relevant commodity trading experience.Demonstrated successful application of a numerical or mathematical discipline.Strong communication skills with the ability to make solid commercial decisions.Relevant tertiary technical or commercial qualification.Knowledge of generation, power systems and electricity markets would be a plus.About YouYou will be an experienced commercial professional, able to make discretionary decisions in a fast-paced real time environment. You will need to have sound judgement to work independently, whilst working with a high level of accuracy to capture market opportunities and cover portfolio risk and compliance.
