Te Ahuatanga o te Mahi – Kaiarahi Ako/ Head of Department Te Ao Maori
Fixed term, full-time covering for study leave for 2025

Te Puna Wai o Waipapa – Hagley College is seeking a Te Ahuatanga o te Mahi – Kaiarahi Ako/ Head of Department Te Ao Maori who loves working with young people and can develop positive, mana-enhancing relationships with akonga, whanau, and staff.

We require a fixed term, full-time passionate kaiako who is always looking to improve their practice.

Ideally, we are seeking a HOD Maori who is able to teach Junior NZC and Senior (NCEA L1-3) te reo Maori me ona tikanga and be a registered NZ teacher. It would also be advantageous if you have matauranga in any additional kaupapa Maori including mahi toi (whakairo, raranga), kapa haka, ki-o-rahi.

Sports Co-ordinator
Fixed term, Part time [20 hours per week], Term 1-3, 2025, term time only [cover for Secondment to Parental Leave]

This position is for approximately 20 hours per week and is for term time only. Sport is a great way for students to engage with each other and the community. Be part of a dedicated group of staff responsible for getting our students active.

Key Roles:

Organise and supervise all facets of lunch time and interval recreational programmes.

Assist with leading and developing the College Basketball Programme.

Encouraging students' involvement in organised activities and upholding the department expectations of those involved.

Publishing weekly sports draws and results.

Maintaining sports equipment.

Maintaining the sports database.

Assisting with the running of school sports events including athletics, cross country etc.

Leading and mentoring the school Sports Council.

Developing department goals.

Communicating with staff.

Coach or manage a sports team each season.

English and Social Science Teacher (1 position)
Part-time, 0.6 FTTE fixed term for 2025 (covering secondment for Parental Leave) (15 hours per week)

We require a part-time (0.6FTTE – 15 hours per week), fixed term teacher to be an enthusiastic and innovative teacher to join our English and Social Sciences Departments for 2025. Applicants are required to be familiar with the New Zealand Curriculum , NCEA and have a current practising certificate.

You need to be currently registered and qualified as a NZ teacher and be able to build strong relationships with staff and students.

Itinerant Teachers of Music [Attached Unit]
The Forte Unit of Itinerant Teachers of Music [ITM] (based at Te Puna Wai o Waipapa – Hagley College) provide students with high quality music tuition within participating schools across the Canterbury Region.

We are seeking three (3) fixed term qualified, highly effective and inspiring ITM Teachers for 2025.[one year]

Teachers are required for individual, small group and ensemble tuition to NCEA Level 3. Some occasional extra-curricular duties/travel may be required.

Successful applicants will be trained, qualified, registered teachers; able to travel independently to rural schools as required (costs reimbursed). Piano skills an advantage.

Positions:

(1) Voice – Part-time (incl Choir)

(2) Flute – Part-time

(3) Single reed woodwind – Part-time (Clarinet, saxophone, bands)

Applicants must have:

Skills and experience in teaching a wide range of styles.

A good understanding of the Music curriculum (Years 9-13).

The ability to assist with NCEA performance preparation and assessment.

The ability to direct both large and small vocal ensembles.

Experience teaching individual and group lessons.

Flexibility within repertoire and a willingness to work with the varying requirements of a diverse range of music departments.

Experience with Musical Theatre, Maori, Pasifika and/or contemporary repertoire would be an advantage.

The successful applicant needs to have current NZ teacher registration (preferred) or a Limited Authority to Teach (LAT).

Valid NZ Driver Licence and a reliable vehicle are required, as the role includes some travel to schools outside the Christchurch metropolitan area. Travel expenses will be provided.

All Itinerant Music Teachers regularly engage in collaborative team meetings with a focus on Professional development including a current focus on Tikanga and te reo Maori.
