We are seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to manage sport and active recreation facilities for the Whangarei District Council. This role manages our current facilities as well as provides high-level direction on meeting current and future active recreation and sports facility needs for the district.
Key Responsibilities Ensure the community has the required facilities for community sport and active recreation ensuring more people are more active, more often.Prepare and maintain our sports fields and facilities, upgrades to existing facilities, and develop new facilities to meet demand and growth.Prepare contract documents for maintenance and minor capital works, including scope and specifications, and brief consultants as necessary.Review documents prior to tender, analyse and evaluate tenders, assess contractor attributes, and manage pre- and post-award contract procedures.Evaluate and authorise variations, prepare progress payment certificates, and monitor contractor performance through regular audits.Ensure compliance with council standards, health and safety requirements, and council policies.Manage and report expenditure against budgets in the appropriate cost centres and prepare agenda items for council regarding contracts and asset management.Contribute to setting service level requirements and assist in developing draft Annual Plan and Long-Term Plan budgets.Implement park maintenance programmes and contribute to the parks asset management database.Supervise and direct contractors, liaising and briefing consultants, and maintaining liaison with internal customers and Parks service providers.Develop and maintain partnerships with the community and sports clubs to maximise council resources, promote open space values through presentations and education, and act on public feedback regarding facilities and services provided.Work with the community to plan new facilities which achieve the objectives of the Active Recreation and Sports Strategy.Working within Council Here at Whangarei District Council, we take genuine pride in having one of New Zealand's most welcoming and supportive work environments, with the awards to prove it.
