Bishop Auckland College is seeking to recruit a Specialist Student Progress Mentor who will be responsible for overseeing the academic and social progress of the students in their care, for their general support and for setting high standards and conveying the tone and atmosphere of the College.They are at the forefront of the system of support and pastoral care in the College and should take the primary initiative in dealing with students' problems contributing to the College retention and the development of College-wide support services in line with the requirements of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and Safeguarding.The Specialist Student Progress Mentor will be responsible for a caseload of students and will work with them to support their induction, performance, and progression. They will also provide and facilitate a range of support for students to improve attendance, retention, and achievement, enhancing the quality of the student experience by providing help with a range of financial, academic, social, and emotional issues which may be significant to the students' progress. This involves helping students to solve problems and ensure attendance, making the most of their learning opportunities.This role will involve working with students in motor vehicle, hairdressing, beauty, and sport curriculum areas, as well as students who are young parents and young carers.The role will also involve the monthly promotion of health and wellbeing topics throughout the College. The successful candidate will have a Level 3 relevant qualification, a Mentoring qualification or other appropriate qualification or relevant experience, and PTLLS or equivalent qualification (or be willing to work towards within 1 year).Applicants will also have experience of working in an advisory/supportive role with a range of learners and working in partnership with other agencies and stakeholders.This role will include responsibilities within safeguarding, and the postholder will be engaging in regulated activity.Bishop Auckland College is an equality, diversity, and inclusive employer.
