Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity Are you a Specialist Geriatrician with an interest in Stroke Rehabilitation and looking for an exciting opportunity to help older people in a supportive team environment? If so, our Older Person's Health Service at Waikato Hospital would welcome your application. We are seeking to employ a full-time (1.0FTE) Consultant Geriatrician who will join our experienced team of Geriatricians, Nurses and Allied Health Professionals at Waikato Hospital in Hamilton, New Zealand.
The Service provides a combination of inpatient, outpatient and community services to clients in the Waikato District. Using a team approach, we provide comprehensive services for people with age-related health problems, such as; stroke, fractured neck of femur, delirium and cognitive impairment. We maintain a close liaison with all other hospital and community services, particular emphasis on Mental Health Services for Older People, Needs Assessment and Service Coordination Services and Orthopaedics.
The objective is to enable patients to achieve the highest possible level of independence (i.e. remain in the community as long as possible) so that the emphasis is on:
Promoting 'wellness', independence and participation
Close liaison with community services
We are looking for someone to join us who is excited about developing a vision for the future of the Service. To enjoy this role, you'll need to be committed to quality service delivery and development and be able to work effectively as a Senior Clinician within a multidisciplinary team.

Training and postgraduate qualifications as a Geriatrician
Vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand or be eligible to apply for Provisional Vocational Registration.
Knowledge and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
The appointee will be involved in teaching, continuing medical education, and quality improvement. A commitment to customer focus, service development and teamwork is essential.
