Area / composite (Years 1–15), Certificated teacher
Subjects: English, Health and physical education, Learning languages, Mathematics and statistics, Science, Social sciences, Technology, Te reo Maori, The arts
Our teaching application and curriculum is inspired by Rudolf Steiner's Waldorf Curriculum. It has a therapeutic focus and is adapted to meet individual needs. We value student-led, self-directed learning, outdoor nature experiences, and have a strong focus on creativity, the arts, and applying our Te ao Maori values principles in all that we do. We promote ako, innovation, and purposeful learning that helps to support meaningful transitions into adult life and beyond.
This role will be leading one of our small classroom groups as the teacher. The age bracket for our akonga/learners in this group is between 13-16, so experience in this age group would be an advantage, but not necessary.
The ideal candidate will have a strong awareness of Te ao Maori. A knowledge of how to engage and respond effectively to the individual needs of a range of diverse learners is also essential, reflecting cultural, whanau, and individual needs and goals while ensuring that the values and philosophies of Hohepa are maintained at all times.
You will be working alongside our akonga/learners with intellectual disabilities with the belief that they can do anything and can learn to be able and independent. Some of the people we support can display challenging behaviours, therefore requiring applicants with a mature approach, who can cope with the mental and physical demands of this role.
This role is for a registered classroom teacher in our special school. We are looking for a teacher who has knowledge in working with akonga/learners with special needs.
Please note that the 90-day trial period will apply to any successful applicant who hasn't previously worked for Hohepa Hawke's Bay.
