Rutherford College needs a teacher who has experience and a passion for special education. The hours available in the unit are 14 hours per week. The balance of time could be negotiated if you are willing to teach in other areas of the school, so please state your specialist area of teaching outside of Special Education.
This position would suit a primary trained teacher.
The successful applicant will have demonstrable knowledge, experience, and skills in supporting young people with severe and challenging behaviours. You will be able to translate specialist knowledge into practical information, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively with young people and their families, educators, and other specialists across a diverse range of settings.
You must have relevant special education qualifications and/or experience. Salary will be dependent on current qualifications and experience.
Other skills required for this role:
The ability to plan and manage time effectively to meet goals and objectives.
Strong documentation and systems skills.
Experience in working with a team of specialist educators and staff.
Knowledge of the curriculum in schools and understanding of inclusive education practices.
Sensitivity to cultural and ethnic diversity and commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
