Burlington is a resort style complex for the 'young at heart'. We are located on the Northeastern side of Christchurch in Redwood. We are looking for a Sous Chef with proven cooking experience to join our hospitality team providing excellent food and service within our A La Carte restaurant housed in our Pavilion.
The Pavilion incorporates 42 serviced apartments, restaurant, bakery, café/bar, gym, pool, movie theatre and wellness centre. There is never a dull day at Burlington, as every day is full of variety for our residents and our staff!
Rostered hours will vary across Monday to Sunday 7.30am – 8.30pm.
Position Overview:As Sous Chef, you will work closely with the Head Chef to lead a talented kitchen team, ensuring the highest standards of food preparation, presentation, and service. You will have the opportunity to contribute to monthly menus, introduce new dishes and maintain the exceptional quality and sophistication our residents expect.
The ideal candidates will possess:Personality! Great people skills are a must.A friendly, cool, calm, approachable manner.Ability to work well under pressure, keep a cool head and be able to multi-task over a wide range of duties including our restaurant, café, functions, delivery meals.Reliability, being discreet and diplomatic.Available at short notice to cover sick/annual leave.NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa.Ability to delegate where required.Bar Managers Certificate an advantage, but not essential.Key Responsibilities:Assist in managing kitchen operations, including food preparation, cooking, and presentation.Collaborate with the Head Chef to create innovative menus with a focus on fresh, seasonal ingredients.Ensure consistent high-quality dishes that meet the standards of both classic and modern cooking techniques.Assistance in chef management, ability to step in when the head chef is not onsite.Food safety and cleanliness standards, maintaining compliance with health regulations.Maintain inventory control, ensuring stock levels are maintained while minimising waste.Experience:Proven experience as a Sous Chef.Extensive knowledge of both classic cooking methods and contemporary culinary techniques.Ability to lead a team, work under pressure, and ensure consistent delivery of high-quality dishes.A passion for creating memorable dining experiences and a strong attention to detail.Culinary degree or equivalent professional experience preferred.Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.If this sounds like you, we would love to hear from you!
