Looking for an opportunity to work for Ngai Tahu Tourism, one of the largest tourism operators in Aotearoa? We're looking for an experienced Sous Chef to join our passionate F&B team in our Dark Sky Diner. This role will be responsible for assisting the Head Chef to create extraordinary culinary delights for our manuhiri (visitors), so if you have a love of kai and baking then this might be the opportunity for you!
Our world-class Astronomy Centre on Takapo lakefront brings to life the science of stars and Tatai aroraki (Maori astronomy) through an immersive and engaging international experience. This experience is a world-first and compliments the range of outdoor experiences that we currently offer to our domestic and international visitors to the region.

As a Sous Chef some of your duties will include:
Assisting the team in managing kitchen production ensuring quality and consistency every time in line with guidelines.
Ensuring standards, costs and menu planning are carried out in a timely fashion, as agreed with the Head Chef.
Assisting the Head Chef with placing supplier orders and developing new food concepts.
Taking a hands-on approach in assisting, monitoring and overseeing all production, stock and operational kitchen concerns.
Helping the Head Chef develop the junior team members in the kitchen.
Assessing kitchen team performance and recognise training needs and potential as appropriate.
Ensuring that work is conducted in a clean and tidy way, monitoring on a continual basis as well as ensuring legislative and government H+S guidelines are adhered to.
Have experience working in a similar fast-paced environment.
Be passionate about delivering top quality food.
Motivating and leading by example, ensuring you and your team have fun at work and are proud of your efforts.
To be successful in this role you will need:
Previous recent experience as a Sous Chef NZ Certificate in relevant Chef/Cooking or similar Sound computer skills Be self-motivated, energetic and display an outgoing personality Have previous experience with budgeting and menu costing Be agile, highly organised and disciplined Anything could happen in a day - and we need someone who isn't afraid of a long and varied to-do list!
