The opportunity
Are you looking for an opportunity to set your career up for the future? Do you want to work in a dynamic team that is rich in interesting commercial IP work and clients? If so, we would love to hear from you!
We have opportunities for those with 2 to 4 years' and 4 to 8 or more years' experience to join our award-winning and ever-growing IP team as a Solicitor/Senior Solicitor or Senior Associate. The people we are looking for will have general IP experience with a focus on trade mark work, including trade mark clearance advice, trade mark prosecution, and trade mark oppositions/revocation proceedings. Experience in IP commercialisation work and/or IP disputes will also be very helpful. An understanding of business sectors and commercial issues, as well as a pragmatic attitude, will also be desirable attributes to bring to the roles.
We are looking for people who can take on matters from the get-go, thrive on challenging work, work with a good balance of autonomy and supervision, and who will gain immensely from the broad variety of IP work available. Visit our IP expertise page on our website to get a glimpse of the high-level commercial IP matters our team has been instrumental in advising on.
You will get mentorship directly from the leaders of the IP team Hamish Selby (Partner) and Sophie Thoreau (Special Counsel) who are highly regarded in the IP industry both locally and internationally. The IP team is well-known for providing a flexible and nurturing environment for IP practitioners to develop and enhance their skillset and knowledge, enjoy autonomy, have lots of direct client contact, and thrive in an ever-changing and challenging legal sector.
If you are interested in making your mark in IP while working with a range of clients that include multi-national companies, large New Zealand companies, SMEs, central and local government, and start-ups then we would like to hear from you.
What you will do in these roles
These roles offer you the chance to work as part of a tight-knit team across the full spectrum of IP work including developing, protecting, enforcing, and commercialising IP as well as IP rights and portfolio management. You will also work on M&A deals in collaboration with our leading corporate and commercial team and provide IP advice across the full range of services provided by Buddle Findlay.
What matters to us
You will be confident in your ability to advise clients, run files, and see the wider picture. You are a self-starter and a team player who is pragmatic, has an eye for detail, is client-focused, and has excellent analytical skills – if this is you, we want to hear from you! Ideally, you will have either 2 to 4 years' or 4 to 8 or more years' IP experience gained from reputable law firms and/or in-house roles.
