As a Family Start professional you will deliver an intensive home visiting programme that works with vulnerable 0-5 year olds and their whanau. The programme focuses on improving infant/children's growth and health, learning and relationships, family circumstances, environment, & safety. Whanau with high needs can be referred to Family Start at any time from pregnancy confirmation, and up until the baby is 12 months old. Family Start is for families with mental health issues, addiction problems, care and protection history, relationship problems, parenting and child development issues or other issues.
Responsibilities
Work with parents/caregivers of babies and young children using a wide range of skills and parenting strategies.
Collaborate with families and whanau to assess the needs of children and babies.
Create and monitor plans using appropriate interventions and the resources available to assist the client family.
Deliver group programmes to parents and caregivers.
Support families to use their strengths, support networks, and resources independently to develop greater resilience and maintain a positive and safe environment for their children.
Skills and Experience
Registration with NZSWRB or a graduate registered with a professional organisation in health or education
Experience of working with children and families
Proven ability to complete complex child and parenting case assessments & case work
Effective communication skills
Knowledge of the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tikanga Maori
A current clear driver's licence
Ideal candidate would have experience in Social Work, Early Childhood Education or Child and Infant Health
