Mo te turanga - About the role You will be based in our Child Development Service/Ratoka Whakapuawai Tamaiti at Southland Hospital, and you will be involved in providing the following: A family centred model (where the child and family is the centre of any planning) and includes task focused and psychosocial aspectsSocial work involvement which can be short term as only a brief intervention is required, or long-term involvement may be requiredAssessments that are varied and may include gathering family history, liaison with various community organisations including NGOs and the education sectorFunding - working alongside parents to ensure their child is receiving the appropriate benefits and are linked into appropriate organisations such as Kia Roha/Your Way or long-Term Chronic HealthAdvocacy which includes advocating for the rights of the child and the parent when appropriateWorking alongside the child and the parents where there is significant life changing adjustments around daily living and the grief and loss process associated with a child with a disabilityThis team is committed to delivering a service of the highest standard and we offer access to regular professional development and peer support.
As a Social Worker in this team, you will have sound social work knowledge and skills, be a team player with excellent communication skills and work cohesively as part of the interdisciplinary team.
To be successful in this position, you will also need to demonstrate the following: Be registered with the New Zealand Social Workers Board (NZSWRB) and hold a current Annual Practicing CertificateAn ability to think on your feet and be experienced at working under pressure whilst multi-taskingA strong understanding of social determinants of health and the impact this has on client health and social needsA sound knowledge of family violence and child protection issues and be able to respond to challenging situations appropriatelyBeing adaptable and flexible allowing you to work effectively with your clients and within a changing health environmentExcellent organisational and communication skillsStrong interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate and build relationships with a diverse range of peopleBe a great team player, with the confidence to work effectively within an inter-disciplinary teamHold a current, clean, and full New Zealand driver's licencePrevious experience working with tamariki and families is preferred but not essential.
Utu whanui - Salary range This role belongs to the PSA/DHBs Allied, Public Health and Technical Multi-Employer Collective Agreement and falls between Step 1 ($77,087 p.a) and Step 8 ($110,210 p.a pro-rata) of the Degree-Based Allied, Public Health and Technical scale.
